Program Intro

How do we understand the teachings of the Bible in a modern context?

banner image background banner image background

Deepen your understanding of the Christian faith and life by exploring its Biblical roots, theological framework, missional thrust, ethical calling, historical development, and global context. Redeemer's Biblical and Theological Studies program leans into the rich diversity of denominations represented on campus to develop a deeper understanding of how theology, the Bible, and worldview collide and remain relevant for modern Christians.

Biblical and Theological Studies is a Bachelor of Arts program. It is offered as a major and as a minor.

Quick Links

Right from the start, you're gaining an understanding and critical appreciation of the basic features of Christianity: its Scriptures, history and theology, that equip you to defend and live out your faith.

First-year courses provide a broad overview of topics that are critical to the Christian faith, including a foundational understanding of the Bible. Class discussions, lead by dedicated and experienced professors, give the opportunity to understand worldview from the perspective of other denominational and cultural backgrounds.

Biblical and Theological Studies The Core

The Core Curriculum is a set of 10 courses that every student takes. The courses are woven through every major and get you to think deeply and broadly about what you’re studying. Think about it this way…

  • Pastors provide better care when they understand the diverse stories and histories of people.
  • Theologians can share their perspectives more persuasively when they know how to write well.
  • Ministry directors who are financially literate can create and lead sustainable ministries.

Beyond the Classroom

In the senior-level Gospel, Church and Culture course, students have the opportunity to create a discipleship program for a specific audience and are able to participate in seminar discussions surrounding the contemporary cultural challenges which churches face.

Beyond Campus

Take your passion for ministry into Hamilton’s downtown through a variety of volunteer opportunities such as Deedz — a weekly program where a small group of students go downtown to offer hot chocolate & conversation to those on the street.
