- As Head of the Department, art historian and theorist, Chris Cuthill provides much of the historical and philosophical grounding for the program. He teaches art appreciation, art history and courses which explore the relationship between art/aesthetics and faith. Whether you’re taking art as an elective or as part of their major, Cuthill believes that these courses are essential. Studying the place of art in our lives will allow us to recognize our own cultural values and beliefs, as well as help us develop a sense of continuity and connection to a common heritage.
All studio courses are taught by part-time instructors who come to Redeemer with specializations in a variety of different media. They are all practicing artists who live out the drive and commitment to one’s craft that they encourage in their students. Students are richly served by the capabilities of the Art Department’s part-time faculty, all of whom have professional careers in art outside the classroom. Redeemer’s current studio instructors are:
Foundation Studies (Valley School of Art); A.O.C.A. (Ontario College of Art and Design); M.F.A.-V (Vermont College of Norwich University)
- Bruno is an internationally renowned artist, and recipient of numerous awards and honours, including the internationally coveted Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant three times. He teaches Intermediate Painting and Advanced Painting
James Tughan
