Art Department
Art History and Theory Courses

Given the conceptual strength of our studio offerings, the art department curriculum also includes a number of courses which allow you to historically and philosophically ground your work. Some of these courses include art appreciation, art history courses and courses which explore the relationship between art and faith.

The practice of art does not occur in a historical vacuum. The study of art builds on prior knowledge. You will expand your own verbal and visual language as you study about artists and their works, world cultures, political issues, social values and worldview. Such study can give you the skills to recognize connections with your own cultural values and beliefs, and can provide you with a sense of continuity and connection to a common heritage.

Art must never be used to show the validity of Christianity. Rather the validity of art should be shown through Christianity.
