Biology Department

Biology is the study of living organisms; it deals with their form and structure, their behaviour, their function, their growth and development, and their relationship with their environment. The study of biology occurs at various levels, from the way organisms function at the molecular level (biochemistry, genetics), the cellular level (cell biology, microbiology), the organ level (anatomy, physiology), and the whole-organism level (ecology, field biology). Learning occurs in the classroom, in the laboratory, and in the field. In studying biology, one can learn to more fully appreciate the beauty, diversity and complexity within creation, and learn important skills needed to work in areas as diverse as resource management, research, medicine, plant breeding, and pest control.
