Mission

Chemistry is a basic science which explores the intricacies and structure of the physical universe and provides a window on the marvellous beauty and order inherent in this part of God’s creation.  The study of chemistry involves understanding the chemical and physical properties of individual elements, compounds and their mixtures, and explaining their many reactions and properties using theoretical models.

Through the application of chemistry, resources found within creation may be transformed into numerous products that benefit humankind.  Knowledge of chemistry is also essential in dealing with the many environmental problems facing society.  But chemistry is not restricted to scientific knowledge and thus must be taught within the broader framework of cultural activities, including the historical development of ideas and theories and their underlying religious assumptions.  An understanding of the principles of chemistry also provides a foundation for other science and technology-related fields.

Dr. Darren Brouwer
Assistant Professor of Chemistry

“What excites me about chemistry, and science in general, is the opportunity to discover how God has structured His creation."

Redeemer gave me a good biology/chemistry basis which most environmental programs do not have. In addition, the professors provided guidance, friendship and example on how to live out your faith.
