Education Department
Mission Statement

Within the context of Redeemer's Mission Statement, it is the undertaking of the Department of Education to:
  • provide a comprehensive pre-service program of studies for Christian elementary teaching that includes a liberal arts foundation, competency in the theory and practice of teaching Christianly and an extensive practicum;
  • develop a critical knowledge of the prevailing theories and practice of education;
  • inculcate the understanding that the focus of Christian schooling is on instructing the stdent, within the framework of the normative premises of God's revelation, for a life of Christian service by means of a school approved course of studies that
    • encourages commitment to God,
    • discloses nature and culture,
    • develops literacy
    • guides toward maturity, with a variety of teacher-directed pedagogic strategies in a nurturing environment;
  • encourage and provide ongoing professional education for teachers;
  • cooperate with other organizations and educators in contributing to professional excellence in the education of children and particularly in Christian schooling in Canada;
  • do research on education and schooling in general and on Christian education in particular
