BACHELOR OF EDUCATION

A highlight for many education students is the practicum. There are a number of components related to the practicum:

Pre-practicum
You will be involved in 75 hours of teacher assisting in your first year of the Education program. You will be placed in local Public and Catholic schools for this experience which takes place in conjunction with the Introduction to Teaching course.

Teaching Practicum
In the second year of your program, you experience two, six-week placements in schools. This “student teaching” placement provides you with 60 days of teaching opportunities during which you will move from observing and limited teaching to full teaching responsibilities.

Professional Learning Community
You will participate in professional seminars before, during, and following your practicum placements in your final year. Called "The Professional Learning Community", these workshops and seminars occur on campus and online while you are in your practicum.

Spotlight

Dr. Thea van Til Rusthoven
Associate Professor of French

Dr. Rusthoven has loved languages since she was young. Growing up in a very multi-cultural area of Chicago, she heard on the street a lot of languages spoken, and wanted to learn more about them.
