BACHELOR OF EDUCATION


 
 
As a student in either the Concurrent or Consecutive Program, you will take the Teaching Methods courses connected to your chosen division (P/J or J/I).  The three model programs below will help give you an idea of the structure of your specific program.  Typically, you would be taking a combination of day and night courses 3 or 4 days a week.  More details about your course schedule will be available once you are admitted to the program.
 
Model Concurrent Program
Year 1 Courses in major (1-2); courses in minor (1-2); ENG 103 or 104; HIS 105 and one of HIS 107 or 109; REL 101; PSY 121 or 122; a Fine Arts course; PED 100 & INT 101
Year 2 Courses in major (3); courses in minor (2); REL 201 or 251; Fine Arts or PHL 201; 2nd social science core; 2 science core
Year 3 Courses in major (3-4); courses in minor (2-4); remaining core or electives (2-4)
Year 4 Courses in major (3); courses in minor or electives (1-2); EDU 301 and 303 (2); EDU 306; EDU 422 and 382 or EDU 423 and 383 and Curriculum studies electives (1 course or 2 half-courses); INT 3xx
Year 5 10 courses in Education, including a 6-week practicum each term. Students need to be prepared to participate in practicums with transportation as placements may be outside of the greater Hamilton region.

Model Consecutive Program - Primary/Junior
Year 1 The following courses may be taken part-time over both the Fall & Winter Terms of Year 1 or full-time in the Winter Term of Year 1.

EDU 301 (F/W), EDU 303 (F/W), EDU 306 (F/W), EDU 422 (W), EDU 382 (finishing in Year 2 Fall Term), Curriculum Studies Elective (choose from one of EDU 210, 251, 310 or two from EDU 220, 221, 309, 328, 331, and 426 (F/W)

To strengthen their program students may wish to take 1 or 2 courses in areas of interest. This would include options in the Department of Education or in any other department. Students intending on meeting the requirement of the Christian School Teachers Certificate should complete either REL 101 or REL 201.
Year 2 (Fall) Full-time studies required. EDU 337, EDU 382, EDU 414, EDU 340, EDU 441, EDU 480, EDU 487 (finishing in Winter Term)
Year 2 (Winter) Full-time studies required. EDU 407, EDU 410, EDU 446, EDU 482, EDU 487, Curriculum Studies Elective (choose from one of EDU 310 or two from EDU 220, 221, 309, 331, and 426

Model Consecutive Program - Junior/Intermediate
Year 1 The following courses may be taken part-time over both the Fall & Winter Terms of Year 1 or full-time in the Winter Term of Year 1. EDU 301 (F/W), EDU 303 (F/W), EDU 306 (F/W), EDU 423 (W), Curriculum Studies Elective (choose from one of EDU 210, 251, 310 or two from EDU 220, 221, 309, 328, 331, and 426 (F/W)
