Professor Michael Buma

Dr. Buma grew up in London, Ontario, completed his Bachelor of Arts at Calvin College, and proceeded to take his MA and PhD at the University of Western Ontario. Although his areas of specialization are Canadian literature, 20th Century British and Irish literatures, and cultural studies, his interests also include sports. Last year, he taught a sport and social issues class at UWO; his doctoral dissertation looked at Canadian hockey novels.

Dr. Buma has backpacked through Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Canadian West, and Europe. He also lived in Haiti for one year while he taught with Christian Reformed World Missions. When he is not reading or writing, he enjoys playing sports or spending time with his wife Selena. They are expecting their first child in November.
