English Learning Community
The English Learning Community is an exciting new venture, whose purpose is to gather both the English faculty and all students specializing in English into a group, so that we can encourage each other in developing leadership skills, scholarly interests, and a sense of vocation. The learning community not only provides opportunities for faculty to develop relationships with students – it also enables the establishment of a network across “generations” of students, connecting upper-year students with first and second year students, encouraging a type of peer-mentorship within the English program.
Over the past year, the English Learning Community offered a number of events available to students, including a trip to Stratford, six Canada Council poetry readings, two pizza parties, a graduate school information session, and a number of guest lectures including one by Dr. Roger Lundin.
Central to the mission of Redeemer is the objective to equip each student for a life of leadership and service under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, to advance knowledge through teaching, and to be an academic community in which students, faculty, and staff develop intellectually, socially, and spiritually. Each learning community endeavours to carry out this objective. The English Learning Community aims to facilitate the formation of relationships in order to provide a place of belonging for all students and faculty in English, while providing a healthy basis for learning at Redeemer University College.
