Mission Statement

The Mathematics program concentrates on developing good technique for solving problems and proving theorems. But we strive to do more. In attempting to achieve the goals of Redeemer’s mission statement, we must study techniques and facts within a larger context of meaning.

We examine the relationship of mathematics with other disciplines, and explore the implications of various discoveries and constructions of mathematics. We look at the historical context and various philosophical foundations to see what role they play in forming worldviews. We do all this in the light of the Scriptures, which declare God to be the Creator and Sustainer of the world (including our rational minds).

Mathematics is one aspect of creation, one whose beauty and order reveal the majesty of its Maker. And since we believe that every activity is religiously directed, we search for the proper role of mathematics in a life of service in the Kingdom of God.
