Co-curricular Highlights

The Sinfonia is a chamber orchestra of student and community musicians that performs two to three times during the academic year and is conducted by Dr. Paul Thorlakson.

Entrance to the group is through audition. The Orchestra is committed to continued exploration of orchestral literature and exposure to its technical and expressive demands. The mission of the Orchestra is to foster musical excellence as a function of the stewardship and awareness of God’s generous gifts to us.

The Redeemer Concert Choir is a wonderful microcosm of the student body at Redeemer University College. While some of the students are music majors or minors, most of these young singers are students majoring in other disciplines such as English, History, Biology, Theology, Math, Sociology, etc.

Concert Choir is an auditioned ensemble of 35-40 singers who perform repertoire spanning five centuries of choral music treasures. For the past twenty seasons the concert choir has performed under conductor/organist Dr. Christiaan Teeuwsen. Concerts are given at Christmas season, Spring and Easter season. These performances are given in the 1000 seat auditorium on the college campus in Ancaster, Ontario and in various locales throughout Ontario. The Concert Choir tours regularly throughout Canada and the United States. During the past twenty years they have been accompanied by the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony London, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, and recently performed with members of Tafelmusik. The ensemble has also appeared on 100 Huntley Street, and can be heard on CBC Radio.

The community, the individual attention, and the insistence on academic excellence at Redeemer were vital to my being prepared for God’s calling and vocation.
