Mission Statement

We in the Political Science Department believe that politics is a limited but important human activity, and a fit avenue for fulfilling the central biblical mandate to love God and our neighbours.

Accordingly, those engaging in politics are subject to norms which he has established for his creation, the chief of which is to do justice. Though each of us is called to act justly in a wide variety of contexts, this is a task specially given to the state, which is the political community of citizens and their government.

In contrast to many contemporary ideologies which see the state as either the arbitrary creation of self-interested individuals or the ultimate unifying institution of society, we see it as a servant of God charged with doing public justice to all individuals and communities within its territory. It is this conviction that governs the study of political science here at Redeemer University College.

Professor of Political Science

Dr. David Koyzis has always grappled with the Bible's commands to do justice, especially to those who are most vulnerable. "Education and justice are an integral part of the Christian experience," says David.

No state has the capacity to ensure that men are happy; but all states have the capacity to ensure that men are unhappy. The attempt to politicize everything is the destruction of politics.
