Co-Curricular Highlights

There is more going on in the Psychology Department beyond the learning that takes place in the classroom. To make the most of your time with us, get involved in any or all of the following:

Psychology Internship
If you major in psychology, you will have the chance to complete a psychology internship for course credit. First, you meet with our internship coordinator and decide what local agency or organization is right for you. Are you interested in working with troubled adolescents? Autistic children? Brain-damaged adults? Seniors with dementia? No matter what your interest, we will find a local agency or organization that specializes in your interest. Then, you spend approximately 120 hours at the agency, applying what you have learned in the classroom to the "real world". Many of our students find summer employment or full-time employment at the agency in which they completed their internship. In recent years, our students have completed internships at shelters, community clinics, hospitals, group homes, welfare agencies—and the list goes on.

Research
Many of our faculty are involved in research. If you like, you may be able to assist a faculty member with his/her research.

Psychats
A few times each year, our Department organizes a one-hour presentation of a current hot topic in psychology. Guest speakers, faculty, or senior students may lead the presentation, and all psychology students are invited to attend. Recent topics have included propaganda and the importance of diet to psychological health.

People are like stained glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun's out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is light within.
