Religion & Theology

Can you explain and defend what you believe? Religion and Theology studies will help you to understand the foundations of the Christian faith.

Within the three programs available, you will find courses that guide you through the development of Christianity over the centuries, courses that explore certain themes or doctrines in the Bible, and courses that help you address the big questions facing Christians. While Religion and Theology studies are solidly rooted in the Reformed Protestant tradition, you will benefit from the rich diversity of denominations that make Redeemer such a vibrant place to learn.

The Religion and Theology major is designed to help you understand the development of Christianity within its global and historical context. Through classroom investigations and discussions with students from over 40 denominations, you will explore a wide variety of topics, including Old and New Testament Theology, Christian Ethics, World Religions and contemporary faith issues.

Mission & World Christianity

What does the Gospel look like in Africa or in Asia? What do other religions say about the world in which we live? How do we, as Christians, bring Christ to the world in relevant and meaningful way? The Mission and World Christianity minor will challenge you to place your faith squarely in the context of a diverse and changing world.

Today, many of the world’s neediest countries do not allow access to missionaries, though the door is often open to people with business backgrounds, educational training, and other vocations. For this reason, the Mission and World Christianity minor is designed to complement your main area of interest, whether it is business or education, science or art, in order to give you the tools, knowledge and passion necessary to bring the Gospel to other countries, or even at home, in ways that are sensitive to various cultural factors.

Youth Ministry

Passionate about today’s youth? The Youth Ministry major allows you to explore the implications of everything you learn in both a classroom and a practical setting.

While similar to the Religion and Theology major, the Youth Ministry major involves you in an internship where you obtain course credit for your participation in ministry to youth. You also have the flexibility of an independent study where in your third or fourth year you design a course which allows you to explore a significant topic under the guidance of a professor to suit your interests, gifts, and passion in youth ministry.
