Co-Curricular Highlights

Mainstage Plays

Faculty directed mainstage plays are one of the primary ways in which we put theory into practice. With our commitment to doing works from a range of periods and a variety of styles, students will be challenged not only to grow as performers, but also to investigate the worldview assumptions that lie beneath the works and actions of the plays we do. Students who major in Theatre are required to involve themselves in at least four major productions. Theatre minors are required to be involved in at least two. Academic credit is awarded.

Student Productions

There are a plethora of student productions in any given year. Student projects arise out of Directing classes, but also out of Text and Presentation (THR 205) and independent studies.

Theatre Trips

Both the English Department and the Theatre Department organize outings to area theatres such as: Stratford Festival, Shaw Festival, Theatre Aquarius and smaller local theatres as well.

Los Angeles Film Studies Centre

Students may elect to spend a semester in Los Angeles, California at the LAFSC for a full semester of study. Courses include studies in film and worldview, applied project work in production, and work placements in the film industry.

Semester in Oxford

Through a program managed by colleagues in the English Department, a number of our theatre students have spent a semester studying poetry and drama in Oxford, England. Experience includes classroom study but also production work and field trips to important theatre sites.

Spotlight

Ray Louter
Associate Professor

“Reclaim your body, both the beautiful and the ordinary without fear. People are going to see you anyways, so let them see you.” How else can we honestly speak about faith matters, Louter asks?
