About Us
Circulation
A valid Redeemer University College I.D. card (student, staff, faculty or alumni) or a community borrower's card is required to check out books. A community borrower's card is available at no charge from the circulation desk. Community patrons may borrow a maximum of twenty (20) items, alumni a maximum of thirty (30), students fifty (50), faculty and staff one hundred (100). Of these, a maximum of ten (10) may be CD's and ten (10) may be videos.
Due Dates
The loan period for books is three (3) weeks for students, alumni and community borrowers and twelve (12) months for faculty and staff. The loan period for CD's and Videos is three (3) days. Please respect the due date issued when you check out library materials. Outstanding fines will be charged to your account. Students' marks will be withheld until their accounts are settled.
Renewals
If library materials are neither overdue, nor requested by another borrower, they may be renewed. A maximum of two (2) renewals is allowed per item for students, staff or alumni. One (1) renewal is allowed for community borrowers. Renewals may be made by telephone only once. Please make sure that you have your I.D. or borrower's card at hand when you renew by phone.
Fines
The fine charged for the late return of books, CD's and videos is 50 cents per item, per day, with a maximum of $10 per item. Reserve loans 1 cent per minute, with a maximum of $10 per item. Recalls: $1.00 per day, maximum $10/item. Replacement charges: current cost of item including tax, shipping cost etc.) plus $10.00. An unpaid balance of $20 or more will result in the loss of borrowing privileges.
Notices
It is the responsibility of library users to keep the library informed of their current address. The non-receipt of library notices does not relieve the borrower from fines or suspension of privileges. Errors or misunderstanding must be reported promptly in order to be considered.
Reference Services
Reference services are available Monday to Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please do not hesitate to approach a librarian with any of your research questions and problems.

Study Space
Desks for studying are available on a "first come first serve" basis. Users are asked to keep noise to a minimum in all study areas. Four small study rooms are available for group work and must be booked through the Circulation Desk. The rooms may be booked for a maximum of two hours. Should the room not be booked at the end of the two-hour period, users may renew the booking for an additional time period but no longer than two additional hours.
Photocopiers
A card operated photocopier is available in the library. Cards may be purchased in the general office. A coin operated photocopier is also available at 10 cents per copy.
Lamination
Lamination is also available to library users. Please consult library staff at least 15 minutes prior to using the lamination. There is a charge of $1.00 per foot, rounded up to the nearest foot.
Scanners
A scanner is also available in the library for patrons' use.
Inter Library Loan/McMaster Access
The library has access to the holdings of more then 10,000 libraries worldwide. You can search McMaster University's database and students can get a form to obtain a McMaster borrowing card here at our library. Reference librarians will search other databases for you and request books, articles or theses from any library where they can be found. A small fee is involved. Please contact the library for additional details.
The Collection
The Peter Turkstra Library is available to university staff, faculty and students as well as to community borrowers. Established in 1982, the collection currently includes approximately 93,000 monographs, 400 journal titles, the 4000 volume Pascal and Custance collections devoted to the relation of science and faith, an extensive Dutch collection, a collection of rare books, 1,900 CDs and 915 videos and DVDs.
Reserve Materials
Books and articles on course reading lists, as well as solutions and tests are kept on reserve behind the Circulation Desk. They must be requested by course number and title from the library assistant on duty. A valid Redeemer University College I.D. card is required.
Reference Collection
The reference collection includes a variety of dictionaries, directories, atlases, encyclopedias, almanacs and yearbooks. Please ask at the reference desk for assistance in using the reference collection.
Journals
Full-text journal articles can be found using databases such as: Academic Search Premier, Business Source Elite, Humanities International Complete, and PsycArticles. Some full-text books are available through the Canadian Literary Centre, the Canadian Reference Centre and the Literary Reference Centre. Additional articles may be located through bibliographic databases such as Religion Index, MedLine, Sport Discus, and the Canadian Education Index. Library users may also use FirstSearch, a commercial online information service. Please consult with reference librarians for assistance in using any of these. For more information please see the

Books
The library catalogue lists all books available in the collection.
Teacher Education Resource Centre (TERC)
This collection contains almost 5,000 curriculum materials to support Redeemer’s teacher education program. These materials may be borrowed by anyone with a valid library card.
