CONCURRENT EDUCATION
If you are interested in applying to the Concurrent Bachelor of Education Program, you may apply after taking the equivalent of 1 full-time year at Redeemer (2 semesters). Typically, students will apply in the fall term of their second year or third year at Redeemer. Students who do not have a recognized bachelor's degree (ex: a B.R.E. is not a recognized bachelor's degree) but have completed some post-secondary work, may choose to transfer to Redeemer and, after 1 full-time year of studies, may apply to the Concurrent Program to gain a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree along with a Bachelor of Education degree.
To be considered for admission, you must have regular admission status in a Redeemer degree program and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 6.5 (on a 12 pt scale). The application process includes an interview with the Department of Education, exploring your particular interests and qualifications towards a career in education. When applying, you must also provide evidence of at least 25 hours of experience working in an elementary school setting. This requirement is normally met by completing Education 021, "Classroom Observation."
The Primary/Junior Level (kindergarten through grade 6) does not require you to have a teachable. If you plan to teach at the Junior/Intermediate Level (grades 4 through 10), you are required to have at least 6 term courses (18 credits) in one of the teachable subjects below:
