FOR PARENTS

As a parent, you are an integral part of your son or daughter’s investigation of post-secondary institutions. Redeemer is dedicated to providing you with the resources you need to assist them in their decision-making process. We are committed to keeping you informed regarding what Redeemer University College offers your son or daughter for their university education experience.

From the President…

As a parent, you can be assured that the education your son or daughter will receive at Redeemer takes place in a distinctively Christian context and is of high academic quality. Redeemer University College strives to equip students for lives of leadership and service under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  It seeks to be an academic community that enables students to develop intellectually, socially and spiritually, bringing honour to Christ in all we do.

Making the University Transition:
All incoming students go through an adjustment when they begin university. Redeemer provides various resources and support services to make this transition as smooth as possible:
- Resident Advisor (RA) in each Residence: a 3rd or 4th year student who serves as a resource, mentor and friend to incoming students.
- Study Smart Seminars: held throughout the academic year on various topics such as note-taking, studying for exams, and time management.
- Academic Support Services: including student tutors for each class
- Confidential personal counselling
- Special Needs Services

Registration for First-Year Courses:
The Registrar’s Office is committed to providing personal course registration appointments for every student. Students may also explore their prerequisites, course schedule and Grade Point Average (GPA) online with WebAdvisor.  More information about registering for courses will be sent to your son or daughter once they have been offered admission to Redeemer.

Labour Day Orientation:
We hope that you take the time to join a special orientation session for parents on Labour Day. The session is aimed at parents of incoming university students, but all parents are more than welcome to attend.

Residence:
All incoming students under the age of 20 are required to live in Residence unless they live in the Ancaster/Hamilton area already. Residence applications are sent to students once they are offered admission to Redeemer. A Resident Advisor (RA) lives in each Townhouse. They are responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy environment, organizing chores, cooking schedules and devotions, and mentoring and assisting the students with the transition to university life.

Campus Safety:
Each Residence Advisor (RA) goes through a week of training in first aid, CPR, fire-safety, conflict management, and other situational instruction to prepare them to appropriately manage their Residence.

Transportation:

Redeemer students each receive a Bus Pass for the academic year with their Student ID Card. The bus stop on campus connects with the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR). Students who choose to have a vehicle on campus must purchase a Parking Permit from the Security Office.

Treat Your Student:

Students love receiving packages in the mail, and you can send items directly to your son or daughter by addressing your mail to their name, c/o Redeemer University College. Also, every Exam Season, you will be sent an offer to participate in the Care Package Program organized by Student Life. Throughout the year, a Treat Program is available as well from Campus Services.

Questions, Comments or Concerns:

Your son or daughter is assigned a specific University Representative to assist in any way throughout the investigation, application or registration process. Please feel free to connect with them at your convenience.
