In Celebration of Black History Month

This event has included black history reflections, well-known musicians, gospel praise and a night to celebrate black history month.

The past proceeds of the night and a portion of CD sales went towards an incoming student of African or Caribbean heritage that demonstrated financial need. Donations are still accepted for this scholarship.

Our Chaplaincy and Student Life Departments are working with students to help educate our community of the contributions of African-Canadians, and to celebrate those accomplishments at a number of events across campus. Some of those include:
  • A presentation at Hotspot - February 6
  • Feature at Church in the Box - February 9
  • A showing of the award-winning movie 12 Years A Slave (2013)- February 24-28
  • A presentation at Chapel - February 26
The students and Student Life are also working to have several displays set up throughout the month.

Above: SHOUT! In the House 2013 with featured artists Victory International Worship, Sheldon Neil & The Way, Christopher Samuels, Zakiya Toby, Heaven Sound, Sean Gibson and Samantha Whitney. There were quotes from Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks, Mahalia Jackson, and Aretha Franklin throughout the night.
