Cross Country Update

The Royals Cross Country team is off to a good start.  There are a number of new faces to this years team along with some familiar veterans.  So far the team has competed in 4 events and are steadily improving.  The season opened up with a meet in Brockville hosted by St. Lawrence College.  The Womens team captured 3rd and the mens was 4th.  The top individual performance came from freshman Taylor Kraayenbrink as he captured the 6th place spot in the mens race.

The next week saw the saw the Royals team travel down the road to Fanshaw College.  Both teams ran well in a very competitive race.  The men were without their two top runners but still managed to place 10th.  The women were a respectable 11th place.  Jan Korevaar was the top male in the race placing 25th in a field of 99.  Angelina Gomes was the top female finishing in the 27th position in a race of 71 athletes.

The next stop of the season was at Sir Sanford Fleming.  Both the men and womens team looked strong on the hilly and techniqually challenging course.  Alex VanGeest lead the men with his 19th place finish.  The men were missing 2 of their top 4 runners but were still able to capture 8th place overall.  The women were lead by veteran Jody VanDorp who finished in 26th place.  The women were also missing their top runner in the race but had strong performances by 2 freshman, Annie Stollery and Alison Bevaart to help them claim the 8th place spot as well.

The next meet for the Royals was the St. Clair Invitational on the 17th of October which will be followed by the OCAA Championships at the same location on the 30th.
