If you are a graduate of Redeemer's former Bachelor of Christian Education (BCEd) degree, you are eligible to apply for our Bachelor of Education degree program that is accredited with the Ontario College of Teachers (
OCT) and are able to receive advanced standing in the program.
A limited number of spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Following completion of the Bachelor of Education, as is the case with all graduates, the Education Department will make a recommendation to the Ontario College of Teachers for certification. The Ontario College of Teachers makes the final decision regarding the issuing of the Certificate of Qualification.
Program Requirements
The Redeemer University College Senate has determined that courses from the Bachelor of Christian Education (B.C.Ed.) Program are equivalent to eleven of the fifteen courses required in Redeemer’s Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Program. Individuals who hold Redeemer’s B .C.Ed. degree normally will satisfy the B.Ed. requirements by completing four courses (12 credits). Once admitted to the program, students will be given two years to complete the requirements in effect at the time of admission. Should the program requirements change following that two year period, students who have not completed the program within that two year period will be required to complete the new program requirements.
Redeemer has committed to providing course requirements during the summer until 2012, at which time the schedule of course offerings will be reviewed. There will be limitations on the enrolments (particularly in EDU-482/83, since full-time faculty must travel to supervise the placement) and the enrolment will be monitored to ensure the integrity of the B.Ed. Program. Model Programs for both
14 Month and
2 Year completion are available.
All the requirements of the Bachelor of Education Program concerning GPA and minimum grades for student teaching apply to both the additional courses taken and to any credit in the previous program at Redeemer.
