CE-5001-B: The Man Who Created Narnia (C.S. Lewis Lecture)
How did a man with no children and who spent all of his life in academia, manage to write some of the most engaging children’s stories of all time? This lecture looks at the main influences on the life of C.S.Lewis, from the spiritual experiences of his childhood to his becoming an atheist at the age of twelve, and from friendship with J.R.R.Tolkien to the nature of his conversion, and shows how all of these offer clues as to how The Chronicles of Narnia came to be written.
John Bowen is Professor of Evangelism at Wycliffe College in Toronto. He is the author of several books, including The Spirituality of Narnia: The Deeper Magic of C.S.Lewis (Regent College Publishing 2008). He discovered the Narnia stories at the age of thirty, and life has never been the same since. John is married to Dr Deborah Bowen, an English professor at Redeemer. They have two married children and two grandchildren, whom they look forward to introducing to Narnia in due course.
