Though often branded as a doctrinaire, John Calvin’s overriding focus as a Protestant reformer was on promoting piety - an intimate relationship with God which shapes all of life. The "Calvin: Champion of Piety" lecture will consider this by closely examining his earthy spirituality and his high view of the sacraments.

Dr. Jim Payton is author of Light from the Christia East: An Introduction to the Orthodox Tradition (IVP Academic, 2007) and of Getting the Reformation Wrong (IVP Academic, forthcoming, 2010).  He is Professor of History at Redeemer and serves as president of CAREE (Christians Associated for Relationships with Eastern Europe), which works in the region in the pursuit of peace, justice, and reconciliation.
