Privacy Policy

In accordance with applicable laws, Redeemer University (Redeemer) is committed to protecting the privacy of its members, students, alumni, donors, volunteers, employees, officers, board members and any other persons about or from whom Redeemer collects personal information.  Redeemer has an additional “Access to Student Records and Privacy of Information” policy (see the Redeemer University Academic Calendar).

1.     Accountability

Redeemer is responsible for maintaining and protecting the personal information under its control. Redeemer has appointed a Privacy Officer who is responsible to ensure that the university complies with its privacy obligations in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

2.     Identifying Purposes

Redeemer collects and uses personal information for a variety of purposes including, but not limited to:

  • Managing student academic records and other information systems (see Access to Student Records and Privacy of Information Policy in the Academic Calendar)
  • Providing information and services to prospective students, alumni, parents, churches, donors, supporters, etc.
  • Establishing and maintaining lists of prospective students, students, alumni, parents, churches, members, donors, supporters, etc.
  • Conducting research

Redeemer shall identify and explain the purposes for which it collects personal information, to the person from whom the personal information is being collected, before or at the time the information is collected.

3.     Consent

Consent will be obtained from the person whose personal information is collected, used and disclosed, unless obtaining the consent would be inappropriate or not required by law. Sometimes the person’s consent may be implied by virtue of their membership in the University or because of the person’s conduct within the University. When it is appropriate, written consent will be obtained.

Written consents will be kept on file for as long as the information is reasonably necessary. A person may withdraw his or her consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. The person will be informed of reasonably foreseeable implications of the withdrawal.

4.     Limiting Collection

Information collected will be limited to that required for the purpose or purposes identified by Redeemer. The University is committed to collecting personal information in a fair, open and lawful manner.

5.     Limiting Use, Disclosure and Retention

Personal information shall not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the person or as required by law. All collected personal information shall be destroyed, erased or made anonymous as soon as the purpose for which it was collected is no longer relevant, or as permitted by the law. Nothing in this Privacy Policy prevents University staff from collecting, retaining and using information related to individuals administered to by the University, since such information assists in providing quality services to those ministered to.

6.     Accuracy

Personal information shall be maintained in as accurate, complete and up-to-date a form as necessary in order to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected.

7.     Safeguards

Personal information will be protected by security safeguards that are appropriate to the sensitivity of the personal information. This safeguarding could include physical measures such as locked filing cabinets and premises security, organizational measures such as restricted access to files with personal information or technological measures such as security software.

8.     Openness

Information regarding the privacy policy of the University, as well as the personal information management, shall be available as requested. The information will include:

  • Name and address of the Privacy Officer
  • Means of gaining access to personal information held by the University
  • Copy of any brochures or other information that explains the University’s policies, standards or codes

9.     Access to Personal Information

Access to personal information will be granted, where the University is legally required to release the information and provided that the disclosure does not violate any applicable statutes or contracts, to the person to whom the information pertains where there is an appropriate written request. The existence, use and disclosure of the personal information will be granted within a reasonable period of time. Any inaccuracy or incompleteness of personal information will be amended as required.

10.     Challenging Compliance

Complaints or inquiries about the collection, use, disclosure or retention of personal information and the University’s compliance with these ten principles should be directed to the Privacy Officer. The Privacy Officer will investigate complaints and ensure that appropriate measures are taken.

By accessing any portion of the Redeemer Website, the user agrees to the terms and conditions set out below.

The subscriber to the Redeemer University Website expressly acknowledges that information contained on the site may be provided by independent clubs, associations and organizations and any such information and its content are not the responsibility of Redeemer University. Redeemer University assumes no liability for such content or information.

2. Release of Redeemer University

You also agree to release and hold harmless Redeemer from and against any and all liability, claims, damages, actions, and costs, arising out of or in connection with your use, review or reproduction of the Redeemer University Website.

3. Limitation of Liability

Redeemer shall not be liable to you and/or any third party for any damages of any kind arising out of or relating to the use of, or reliance upon, the Redeemer University Website including, but not limited to, any lost profits, lost opportunities, special, incidental, indirect, consequential or punitive damages, regardless of your advice to Redeemer University to the contrary.

4. Advice

Neither Redeemer nor any of its officers, directors, employees, or agents makes any recommendation regarding any educational or other matter described within the Redeemer University Website.

5. Reproduction of Contents

The contents, but not any logo or other visual representation, of the Redeemer University Website or related website may be used and reproduced solely for non-commercial, personal or educational purposes provided that it is not modified and that you do not delete any copyrights and other legal or proprietary notices contained therein. Such information may not otherwise be used, reproduced, broadcast, published or re-disseminated without the prior written permission of Redeemer.

6. Hyperlinks

The site may link to sites not maintained or related to us. Hyperlinks are provided as a service to you and are not sponsored by or affiliated with the site or us. We have not reviewed any or all of the sites hyperlinked to or from the site and are not responsible for the content of any other sites. The links are to be accessed at your own risk, and we make no representations or warranties about the content, completeness, or accuracy of these links or the sites hyperlinked to the site. Furthermore, we do not implicitly endorse third-party sites hyperlinked to the site.

7. System Integrity

You may not use any device, software or routine to interfere or attempt to interfere with the proper working of the Redeemer University Website. You may not take any action, which imposes an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on Redeemer University infrastructure.

8. Governing Law

This agreement shall be construed and enforced in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario.

9. Disclosures

The information in the Redeemer University Website or related website is offered by Redeemer University, 777 Garner Rd. East, Ancaster, ON L9K 1J4.

10. Entire Agreement

This agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and Redeemer University and supercedes all other agreements. No other representations or warranties are made, save for those contained within this Agreement.

11. Termination of Redeemer University Website or Related Website

Redeemer reserves the right to terminate or modify, in any manner, the Redeemer University Website, and/or any part of any related website any link or linking program at any time for any reason.

12. Fees and Charges

All fees and charges are posted in Canadian dollars.  Refunds are available where it is indicated.

Social Media Guidelines and Term of Use

Redeemer University encourages open discussion on its social media pages.

By participating in discussion, you are agreeing to the community guidelines, outlined below.

We reserve the right to delete posts on Redeemer’s social media pages containing any of the following elements:

  • profanity
  • misinformation
  • spam
  • personal attacks
  • trolling (e.g. off-topic / irrelevant comments)
  • violence, harassment or intimidation
  • promoting illegal activity
  • undermining Redeemer’s founding mission, perspectives, beliefs and policies
  • harmful, defamatory or derogatory statements about the university

If you repeatedly violate this policy, your comments will be deleted, and you will be removed from the page.

Redeemer monitors its official social media pages from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday excluding statutory holidays. Although we are not responsible for content posted on our pages by community members or page visitors, we will take action in terms of having such content removed during business hours if it does not comply with our guidelines.
