Hobbe Smit
Computer Science, Mathematics
“Although it has been a number of years now, it doesn't seem all that long ago since I crossed the Redeemer Auditorium platform to receive my B.Sc. in Mathematics and Computer Science,” says Hobbe Smit ‘04.
Smit has had many exciting experiences since his graduation, including returning to Redeemer to teach a Computer Science course while also doing work for a Campus Internet Ministry, and studying Greek at McMaster Divinity College.
“Since then I have worked at ReserveAmerica as a software test script developer, gained my MMath in Database Research at the University of Waterloo, and have discovered one way in which I could use my Computer Science degrees to further God's Kingdom.”
The way which Smit has found, is working for Campus for Christ. Not only has he completed a year-long internship with Campus for Christ in Scotland, but he has also had the opportunity to encourage Christians from many campuses across Canada. Since returning from Scotland, he has taken on a new role with Campus for Christ as part-time campus ministry worker and part-time software developer. Specifically, he has developed a conference registration tool that allows students and staff to easily sign-up for conferences – inspiring many students to go share their faith on mission projects in Canada and abroad.
“I found it rewarding to be able to contribute quite meaningfully to the efficient functioning of Campus for Christ as they equip students to share the Gospel with other students on campuses across Canada.”
