The Position

Redeemer University invites applications for adjunct instructors in the Kinesiology/Physical Education program to teach the course:

  • KPE-223: Nutrition (2 sections), fall 2026, scheduled for Tuesdays & Thursdays from 12:30-2:00 pm and 3:30 - 5:00 pm;
  • KPE-418: Exercise Physiology II, winter 2027, scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 - 3:15 pm;
  • KPE-335: Sociology of Sport, winter 2027, scheduled for Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 9:30 pm.

Candidates must be aligned with and passionate about Redeemer’s Christian mission of integrating faith in teaching. Candidates should possess a relevant Master's degree or a PhD. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record (or show potential) of excellence in undergraduate teaching.

Responsibilities

  • All duties associated with teaching the course(s). Such duties are guided by approved course-
    level learning outcomes.
  • Scheduled office hours/availability to meet with and respond to student inquiries.
  • Non-classroom time made up of preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking or
    grading, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.
  • Institutional responsibilities in line with the contract.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • Previous post-secondary teaching experience is preferred.

Education/Training/Certifications

  • MA or PhD (preferred)  in a related field.

A range of qualifications will be evaluated, including distinguishing characteristics that demonstrate congruence with Redeemer’s identity as a university in the Protestant and particularly Reformed Christian tradition.

Course Information

KPE-223: Nutrition

This course presents the basic principles of human nutrition and the science behind them. Topics include a full assessment of nutrients, digestion, comparison of food guides, eating disorders, body composition and management, nutrition for sports, and popular trends and myths. Students will evaluate their own nutrient intakes and plan a healthy diet.

KPE-418: Exercise Physiology II

This course will provide an advanced understanding of cardiovascular and muscle physiology in relation to exercise, fitness and health through lectures, readings, and labs. Students will investigate the effect of lifestyle choices, aging, environment (temperature and microgravity), and disease on human physiology. Students will conduct a comprehensive review of literature on a relevant topic of their choice.

KPE-335: Sociology of Sport

This course is seminar style, where students engage in critical examination and discussion of social and social-psychological dynamics of sports in modern society through a Christian worldview. Areas receiving special attention are youth sports, interscholastic sports, and professional sports. Emphasis is placed on describing and understanding sports, participants and observers, and the relationship of sport as an institution to the rest of society.
