Course Information

APS-455: Canadian Indigenous Studies

This course is an interdisciplinary study of the history and culture of Canadian indigenous peoples (including First Nations, Inuit, and Metis) with emphasis on contemporary issues surrounding Native life. The course involves lectures, films, student presentations, and field assignments.

The Position

Redeemer University invites applications for an adjunct faculty position (part-time, limited-term) in Applied Social Sciences beginning January 2, 2023. Candidates must be aligned with and passionate about Redeemer's Christian mission of integrating faith in teaching and research. Candidates should possess a master's degree in the social sciences, relevant experience, and a demonstrated record (or show potential) of excellence in undergraduate teaching. Redeemer is specifically seeking candidates who identify as Indigenous.

Responsibilities

• All duties associated with teaching this course. Such duties are guided by approved Course-Level Learning Outcomes.
• Scheduled office hours with students.
• Non-classroom time made up of preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking or grading, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

• Redeemer is specifically seeking candidates who identify as Indigenous.
• Previous teaching experience at the university-level is preferred.

Education, Training & Certifications

Candidates should possess a master's degree in the social sciences. Certification or registration in relevant fields such as social work or psychotherapy would be an asset.
