The Position

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Athletics Manager assists in the overall leadership and direction of a university athletics program with an emphasis on student-athlete services and management of the department's seven OCAA sports programs. Supporting the strategic vision and mission of the university, the Athletics Manager serves as the athletics facility supervisor and is responsible for developing and managing strategic events, coaching and academic programs, and alumni initiatives.

Responsibilities

Varsity Program Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day management/operation of the department's seven OCAA and NCCAA Varsity athletic programs.
  • In collaboration with the Director, manage the financial portfolio associated with varsity sport and hockey program operation.
  • Work closely with OCAA, CCAA, NCCAA, and member institutions to complete and submit eligibility, schedule, awards, and compliance documents.
  • Manage the overall logistics of the department's varsity programs, including team travel, accommodations, apparel/uniforms, meal stipends, and required student-athlete and coach training.
  • Provide education to Student-Athletes, Coaches, Athletic Department Staff, and campus constituency groups on OCAA, CCAA, and NCCAA rules and regulations.

Athletics Facility Supervisor and Strategic Events

  • Supervise the management of the Redeemer athletics facilities.
  • Train and supervise the Coordinator of Facilities Management and Gameday (FMGD).
  • Prepare budget proposals for varsity programs, facility upgrades/renovations, and strategic events.
  • Oversee the summer operation of the Redeemer athletics facilities, including the training and supervision of summer student staff.
  • Plan and execute departmental events aligned to the department's strategic plan, including recruiting visits, Royals sports camps, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Oversee the successful planning and operation of Royals home sporting events in collaboration with the FMGD.

Coach Development and Academic Success

  • Develop and manage the Royals Academic Success Program (RASP) in collaboration with the learning services department and the university registrar.
  • Develop and manage the Royals Coach Mentorship Program (RCMP) in collaboration with internal (Chaplain, Director) and external stakeholders.
  • Supervise the ongoing operation, success, and effectiveness of both the RASP and RCMP while establishing KPIs.

  • Excellent communication, customer service, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate, organize, and prioritize departmental goals and meet deadlines under minimal supervision while maintaining a positive, effective, and - professional approach.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and external stakeholders in a team-oriented environment. Ability to represent the department's strategic plan to others professionally and courteously.
  • Background in or a knowledge of athletic operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and disciple student-athletes in their Christian faith.

Education, Training & Certifications

  • A relevant Baccalaureate degree (e.g., Sports Administration, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Kinesiology, Organizational Leadership) and a minimum of three years of athletics or higher education experience are required.
  • A Master's degree in a relevant area to the position (or combined education and relevant experience), with a minimum of three years of athletics or higher education experience, is preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Understanding of and commitment to Redeemer University (mission, vision, and Reformed Christian identity).
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, especially during the sports season portion of the academic year. Including some evenings and weekends, which may include light physical labour such as setting up and taking down sports and event equipment.
