The Position

Reporting to the Library Director, the Library Services Assistant (Casual) will, as required, be called on by the Library Director to assist in any area of the library in which there is a temporary need. This may include, but not necessarily be limited to, circulation services, acquisitions, collection management, technical services, or public services. This is a casual, on-call employment.

Responsibilities

  • Circulation Services: Assist the Circulation Supervisor with circulation desk work, stacks maintenance, shelving, or other duties.
  • Acquisitions: Assist the Library Technician (Acquisitions and Serials) with ordering and purchasing, copy cataloguing, serials, receiving, or other duties.
  • Collection Management: Assist the Library Director with the analysis, evaluation, and development of the library’s collections.
  • Technical Services: Assist the Library Director by producing reports, preparing monthly statistics, or other related duties.
  • Public Services: Assist the Library Director by updating and creating library research guides or by providing basic patron reference assistance under the guidance of a librarian.
  • Other duties as needed and as assigned by the Library Director.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • Demonstrated understanding of current library practice.
  • Recent experience in an academic library is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative.
  • Solid computer literacy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Proven attention to detail.

Education, Training & Certifications

  • Completed undergraduate university degree is an asset. (Preference will be given to graduates of Redeemer University)
  • Library Technician diploma is an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Understanding of Redeemer University's Mission, Values, and Reformed Christian identity.
  • This position requires occasional lifting, bending, reaching, pushing and carrying weights of approximately 10 kg (22lbs).
