Why Work at Redeemer?

For nearly 40 years Redeemer University has prepared the next generation of Christian leaders. Redeemer is committed to a Christian undergraduate liberal arts and sciences education that develops the whole person.

Rooted in a Reformed Biblical worldview, and including a diverse community representing over 50 Christian denominations, Redeemer seeks to answer the fundamental questions about where we fit into God’s story while it prepares students to engage in society’s biggest challenges. A rigorous academic program with an interdisciplinary core is supported by a vibrant community characterized by caring discipleship. The result is an enriching and transformational educational experience integrating faith, learning and service.

Redeemer offers 34 majors and streams that lead to either a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Business Administration degree. The university expects to welcome about 1000 students in the fall, served by approximately 200 faculty and staff.

President
executive
Full-time  Open until Jan. 3, 2022 Start Date: Summer 2022

The Position

Since opening its doors in 1982 with just 160 students, Redeemer University has grown to welcome more than 1000 students this year from across Canada and the United States as well as 25 other countries. Offering 34 different majors and streams that lead to accredited degrees, Redeemer offers small classes and a low student-faculty ratio to allow students to be mentored by faculty. Experiential opportunities, cooperative education programs and a spiritually vibrant campus life enrich the educational experience, while off-campus programs allow students to learn while living, studying and encountering diverse cultures.

Guided by its 2025 strategic vision, Redeemer endeavours to produce Kingdom-centred, innovative graduates who will make a profound impact in a rapidly changing, complex, and digital world. As the University’s new President, you will support this vision while advancing its mission to offer a university-level liberal arts and science education which is Scripturally directed and explores the relation of faith, learning, and living from a Reformed Christian perspective.

Reporting to the Board of Governors, as the new President, you will be Christ-centered, and model humility, transparency, honesty, and integrity. Through your authenticity, you will build unity and momentum around Redeemer University’s unique identity, mission, and vision and embrace its Reformed Christian tradition in higher education. You will uphold Redeemer’s commitment to diversity while fostering a respectful and loving campus culture along with optimizing the student experience.

Future-focused, you will lead the implementation of the “Learn. Forward.” Strategic Plan that will guide the University into 2025, to ensure graduates are ready intellectually, spiritually, socially, and technologically to fill opportunities of the marketplace and meet the needs of an increasingly virtual world. A financial strategist, you will champion financial sustainability and fiscal responsibility, including careful management of annual operations. An enthusiastic fundraiser, you will personally engage in building and sustaining relationships with past, current, and future donors to increase philanthropic support. A driver of innovation and an enabler of technology, you will invest in the liberal arts and sciences mission by welcoming opportunities for digital transformation and expand academic offerings while growing enrollment numbers.

An excellent relationship builder with an approachable presence, you enjoy and are energized by the public role of President, and you will be a strong Redeemer ambassador. An exceptional and authentic communicator, you will be someone who loves sharing the Redeemer story in a way that inspires hope and confidence. You will draw greater awareness to and enhance Redeemer’s brand and reputation. You will encourage partnerships and build stronger links to businesses and not-for-profit organizations, while increasing engagement and support from the community.

You will be a visionary leader who inspires others into action, igniting teamwork and collaboration while recruiting, building, and motivating your teams. You will foster a strong value-based culture that promotes equality, diversity, and talent development—skillfully leading a team of exceptional faculty and staff in the pursuit of shared goals and a rewarding student experience. A student-centered leader who enjoys campus life, you will welcome opportunities to engage with learners and be, above all, dedicated to student well-being and achievement.

This complex, executive mandate calls for a president who can take intentional mitigated risks and exercise sound judgement, someone who is both realistic but hopeful, and honors what is while seeing new possibilities. Your ability to pivot will be critical to support Redeemer through a time of significant change in higher education. A terminal degree and at least ten years' experience in senior academic leadership is required.
