General Requirements

All students enrolling in AQ courses must be qualified for admission according to the Ontario Regulation 176/10- Teacher’s Qualification Regulation under the Ontario College of Teachers Act.

  • Students must be members of the Ontario College of Teachers and hold a Certificate of Qualification and Registration in order to be recommended for certification in the completed AQ course.
  • New BEd graduates are eligible to apply for spring AQ courses, however students must be members in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers upon completion of the AQ course.
  • If the course is completed before the student is a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers, the student will not receive credit for successful completion of the course.
  • Please note that retroactive recommendations are not permitted by the Ontario College of Teachers.
  • If a student is not a member of the Ontario College of Teachers, the student is permitted to complete an AQ course for professional development. Please complete and submit the following waiver form with your application:

*Note: Redeemer University College will not submit the successful completion of this course to the Ontario College of Teachers, now or at any time in the future. Should the student wish to have the successful completion of this course recommended to the Ontario College of Teachers, the student will be required to complete this course again as a recognized member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers.

Prerequisites

It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that all prerequisites are met in order for recommendations to be forwarded on to the Ontario College of Teacher’s following the the successful completion of an AQ course.

Course Specific Prerequisites

One-session Additional Qualification courses

  • Certificate of Qualification and Registration

Three-session Additional Qualification courses

Part I:
  • Certificate of Qualification and Registration
  • A qualification in one of the following:
    • Primary division
    • Junior division
    • Intermediate division in a general education subject from Schedule A, or
    • Senior division in a general education subject from Schedule A
  • Additional prerequisites for some qualifications as noted below

Note:

  • For admission into Kindergarten Part I, applicants also must hold a qualification in the Primary division
Part II:
  • At least one year (194 days) of successful classroom teacher experience as certified by an appropriate supervisory officer or the appropriate supervisory official on the Successful Classroom Teaching Experience Form
  • One of the following:
    • Part I of the specialist qualification or an equivalent program
    • A qualification in the Intermediate or Senior division in the same subject from Schedule A
Part III:
  • At least two years (388 days) of successful classroom teaching experience, including at least one year teaching the subject as certified by an appropriate supervisory officer or the appropriate supervisory official on the Successful Classroom Teaching Experience Form
  • Part II of the specialist qualification or an equivalent program
