ACT FIVE is a Christian gap year that connects adventure, service and learning with faith and local community. From Hamilton, you will travel abroad, go on wilderness trips, work on practicums and volunteer in the city. There will be time to think, discuss, worship and learn in non-traditional ways and earn university credits. In a rapidly changing world, ACT FIVE makes time and space to explore who you are and where you’re going.

Program Highlights

  • Spend four weeks in a community overseas
  • Experience the outdoors with a nine day canoe trip and other out-trips
  • Engage with Indigenous communities in Ontario
  • Visit Pittsburgh and participate in the Jubilee conference
  • Work or volunteer on two practicums with a local business, non-profit organization or trade in Hamilton
  • Earn academic credit towards a degree learning in non-traditional environments
  • Learn from mentors that will walk with you over the course of your year
  • Live and eat together, with house parents, in the heart of the city
  • Get to know your community by participating in city events and joining in neighbourhood initiatives

A message from the director:

A conversation between five christian schools in the summer of 2017 noted that increasingly, some graduates of their schools were unsure of where to go next, and needed time and space to see how their faith connected to life in the world. They soon partnered with Redeemer and the Act Five gap year program began in earnest.

Much work has been done. We are actively nailing down trips, housing, and course syllabi, while spreading the vision for this program throughout the heart of Hamilton and communities across Ontario. And we are regularly praying for the first cohort we will welcome in September 2019.

Details will be rolling out during the fall with a launch of the brand and website in January 2019, which will include full program outline, costs, application forms and more.

So stay tuned! Details are coming soon!
