Act Five is Redeemer’s new gap year program, currently in its first year of running with 12 students.  Act Five is an 8-month program that connects adventure, service, and learning with Christian discipleship within an intentional community home.  From our base in Hamilton, you will travel on 3 wilderness trips, spend a month abroad, spend time on the Six Nations reserve, and serve across various placements throughout the city.  You will have opportunities to reflect on who you are, who God is, and where He is leading you; and you will spend time worshiping together, making meals together, and earning university credits through diverse “classrooms”. Act Five is an exciting new venture for Redeemer, and we encourage you to follow along as the program continues to grow.

Program Highlights

  • 9-day canoe trip, winter camping and backpacking trip with Coldwater Canada.
  • A month-long cultural exchange and service trip in either Zambia with EduDeo or the southern US / Central America.
  • Learning alongside Ohsweken Baptist Church on the Six Nations reserve.

A message from the director:

A conversation between five Christian high schools in the summer of 2017 noted that, increasingly, several graduates of their schools were unsure of where to go next, and they were looking for time and space to see how their faith and sense of who they were connected to life in the world. These high schools soon partnered with Redeemer and the development of the Act Five gap year program began in earnest.

Much work has been done to prepare for and begin this new venture. We are currently leading our first cohort of 12 students through our first year, and loving all that God is doing among us. While our program grows these next years, we would encourage you to follow along with our story through Instagram and the Act Five Blog.  For those interested in applying to Act Five or learning more, check out our website, where you will be further directed.

We are grateful for all of the support from within and surrounding the Redeemer community, and we are excited to see how God continues to work as we move forward.
