The Department of English is proud of the achievements of its students! Read on!

Each year, a student is awarded the Department of English Essay Prize, which is co-sponsored by the English faculty and Bryan Prince’s bookstore in Westdale.

Previous Prize Winners:

In the fall of 2016, Elise Arsenault received an Honourable Mention in the Hamilton Short Works Prize, Youth category, for her piece of creative nonfiction, “I Heard God in a Moon Shower.

In the spring of 2015, student Katie Witten won the grand prize for the Fresh Ink writing contest run by the Word Guild, for her poem entitled Suspension.”

The above photo is of two alumni who were recognized for Word Guild awards: Angela Reitsma Bick ’01, who won an award for an editorial entitled “Kitchen Sacraments” in Christian Courier; and Erin Hatton ’01, won for her historical novel Across the Deep.
