Art Gallery

Posted in Art Exhibitions, Arts & Culture

Redeemer’s Art Gallery has been completely transformed by large sculptures. This exhibition is so large that it actually spills over into a outdoor sculpture in the quad!  This exhibition of works by metal sculptor Floyd Elzinga is entitled Haymaker, and it has its opening reception this Friday night at 7:00 (October 23).  This collection of recent and new work combines rural and agricultural icons with business archetypes and styles to offer an important commentary on environmental and agricultural issues.

Floyd Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS. He was initially drawn to steel, due to its malleable, plastic and forgiving nature, and he continues to utilize its range of colours as well as the way light plays off the surface. He has been exploring traditional metal working techniques to create textures and depth the same way a painter would use a paintbrush. Elzinga has been creating 3D sculpture, relief work and environmental installations for over 15 years. Public commissions of Elzinga’s work can be seen in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Toronto, as well as Rockcliffe Park Village Green in Ottawa, on the Canadian side of the Queenston-Lewiston Bridgeand and on campus with Redeemer’s steel/stone bench.

The exhibition will run from October 23 to November 30, 2015.
