Celebrated Dutch-born Catholic priest, professor and pastor Henri Nouwen spent time each day responding to friends, colleagues and complete strangers who wrote to him seeking encouragement and spiritual direction. These letters are numbered in the thousands.

Redeemer’s religion and theology department presents a music-accompanied live reading of Nouwen’s letters from Love, Henri: Letters on the Spiritual Life — a book filled with a selection of 200 of Nouwen’s most personal and compelling epistles. Gabrielle Earnshaw, the book’s editor, has teamed with actor Joe Abby-Colborne to create a unique experience — part lecture and part performance — that offers a unique and rich introduction to the wisdom and compassion of Father Henri Nouwen. Sister Sue Mosteller will offer an introduction, with Krystina Higgins providing musical accompaniment.

Earnshaw combines her scholarship, her passion and her years of experience as the founding archivist of the Henri J.M. Nouwen Archives and Research Collection with Abby-Colborne’s sensitivity and flair for capturing the heart and emotional fragility of one of the most popular spiritual writers of the late twentieth century.

A book signing will take place and refreshments will be served following the performance. A free will offering will be taken.
