Redeemer University will be hosting Dr. John Van Rys for a reading and discussion of his new book, Milksop, on February 5 from 5 to 6 p.m.

John is a retired English professor who spent decades teaching writing and literature after earning his PhD from Dalhousie University, where he specialized in Canadian poetry. A lifelong reader and researcher of Canadian literature, he has authored numerous writing handbooks and turned increasingly to creative work in his later career. His fiction has been widely recognized, winning the Prairie Fire McNally Robinson Booksellers Award for Short Fiction in 2022 and multiple Word Awards from The Word Guild, including Best Short Story in both the general market and Christian categories. He also received a Canada Council for the Arts Professional Development for Artists Grant for 2023–24. John continues to write poetry and fiction, building on a portfolio of award-winning work that spans more than three decades.
