Social media that were meant to connect us leave us feeling divided and isolated. Digital devices that promised to bring the world’s knowledge to our fingertips leave us distracted and overwhelmed. How might we navigate this fragmented information environment with attention, intention and hope? Drawing from historical, cultural, and theological perspectives on technology, Dr. Katie Day Good, associate professor of communication at Calvin University, argues that more communal and sustainable ways of living with digital technology are possible. With a call to share our screens—through family computers, school computer labs, movie screenings, and more—Good discusses how the past and present offer rich yet overlooked tools and strategies for cultivating neighbourliness and Shalom in our hyper-connected age.
Join the Albert M. Wolters Centre for Christian Scholarship as it hosts the 2025 Emerging Public Intellectual (EPI) Award winner Dr. Katie Day Good for The World and Our Calling lecture. The lecture will take place February 2, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. in the Executive Dining Room with a reception to follow.
The EPI award recognizes and fosters emerging talent—those working in the Christian academy who excel in both academic and public spheres and whose work impacts the common good. The award is hosted by Redeemer University and sponsored by Acton Institute, Cardus, the Center for Public Justice, the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU), the Henry Institute at Calvin University and the Mouw Institute for Faith and Public Life at Fuller Theological Seminary.
