To mark the closing of vanitas + viriditas, Redeemer will be hosting Wisdom’s Beauty, a celebratory night of the arts. Enjoy original compositions by Zac Tiessen (featuring the Redeemer String Ensemble) and Brock Hewitt, listen to a poetry reading by Geoff Martin and hear a short message from Josh Tiessen while surrounded by his paintings. Through this event, through a variety of mediums, these creatives will explore the connection between truth and beauty.

Wisdom’s Beauty will be held on November 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Redeemer Art Gallery. Light refreshments will be served.

Zac Tiessen

Zac Tiessen is an award-winning composer based near Toronto, Canada. His credits include additional music for Netflix TV shows and Ubisoft games (PlayStation, Xbox), as well as the video game soundtrack Supernova, a score composed for the StarCraft II campaign UED: First Light. Tiessen employs an ambient cinematic approach, which allows the listener to discover new layers as they are immersed in the music. He studied guitar performance, music theory, production (mixing/mastering), and film scoring through UCLA and Berklee College of Music, where he was awarded a Celebrity Scholarship from Grammy-winning producer Don Was. Working out of ZT Music Studio, Tiessen has mastered thousands of songs and soundtracks, including BBC documentaries and Billboard charting albums, with millions of streams online.

Brock Hewitt

Brock Hewitt’s project “Stories in Sound” focuses on creating powerful music that seeks to replicate the depths and intimacies of human stories and emotions. Each composition is hope-filled, meticulously crafted and deeply captivating. Some compositions are elegant in their simplicity, harnessing raw, vulnerable beauty. Contrast that with neoclassical, cinematic, and ambient works at the polar end of the musical repertoire. Brock is the Founder & Lead Composer of Stories in Sound Studios, based in the GTA. He is currently working out of Canada after living in Los Angeles, where he was interning at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions. Brock’s goal is to create deeply hopeful music that helps filmmakers & creatives share their stories.

Geoff Martin

Geoff Martin is a writer, editor, and coach who helps other people broaden the reach of their words. His essays have won The New Quarterly’s 2024 Edna Staebler Personal Essay Context and been twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize. His place-based and environmental essays have appeared in Creative Nonfiction, Literary Review of Canada, Boulevard, Hamilton Arts & Letters, and The Common, among others. He is currently completing an essay collection — called Homeground — with funding support from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Region of Waterloo Arts Fund. In 2023, he co-founded The Creek Collective, a group of artists making art in response to—and alongside—Schneider Creek in Kitchener Ontario. https://geoff-martin.com
