110 Days of Practice: The Redeemer B.Ed. for Exceptional Teachers

Admissions and Deadlines
Admission Requirements for Bachelor of Education
Applicants for the Bachelor of Education degree program will be considered for admission based on the following requirements:
- A recognized bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. (Don’t have a degree yet? Visit Redeemer’s programs page.)
- A minimum grade average of 70% (B-) in your last two years of undergraduate studies
- Evidence of some experience of working with children in a structured setting
The School of Education offers programs leading to basic qualification in two strands: Primary/Junior (K-6) and Junior/Intermediate (4-10). In order to qualify for the Junior/Intermediate strand, applicants must possess at least six courses in an Intermediate Teaching Subject. The six courses completed must be of increasing difficulty and include at least one 300 or 400 level undergraduate course and a maximum of three 100-level courses. A C- average is required for these courses.

Language Requirements
All students are required to be proficient in the English language. Students are required to hold a degree from an accredited English medium university in an English-speaking country, with a minimum of two years of full-time study at that university. Students who hold a degree outside of this requirement need to complete an English proficiency test:

- IELTS band score of 7.0
- CAEL test score of 70

Application Checklist
- Complete Application: Complete your application at redeemer.ca/apply/education. There is an $80 application fee.
- Provide Contact References: Provide the names and contact information of two individuals who are familiar with your volunteer experience and/or are able to describe your skills and personal qualities that would make you a suitable candidate for the Bachelor of Education program. References will be asked to fill in an online reference form on the applicant’s behalf.
- Submit Transcripts: Request and submit up-to-date and official transcripts from your post-secondary institution(s). Transcripts must come directly from the institution to Redeemer by fax, mail or email (admissions@redeemer.ca).

Courses
The Ontario Ministry of Education and the Ontario College of Teachers requires a four-term (60 credit) Bachelor of Education degree program.
Program Options
You may choose to train to teach in two different divisions. For the Primary/Junior (P/J) level (Kindergarten to Grade 6) you are not required to have a teaching subject. If you plan to teach at the Junior/Intermediate (J/I) level (Grades 4 to 10), you are required to have a minor (at least 6 term courses, 18 university credits) in one of the subjects below:

- Health & Physical Education
- History
- Mathematics
- Music – Instrumental or Vocal
- Religious Education in Catholic Schools
- Science – General
- Visual Arts
Regardless of which track you choose, the completion of the program leads to the Bachelor of Education degree (B.Ed.).
Teaching subject requirements
- Dramatic Arts: no additional requirements
- English: maximum of four writing courses will be accepted; minimum one writing course recommended
- French as a Second Language: applicants are required to take a Grammar Aptitude Test (GAT) and an Oral Proficiency Test (OPT) provided by Redeemer after acceptance into the program
- Geography: minimum of one Canadian geography course required
- Health and Physical Education: courses must be those offered through Kinesiology or Physical Education; maximum of two courses in Health Studies will be accepted
- History: minimum of one Canadian history course required; two recommended
- Mathematics: no additional requirements
- Music – Instrumental or Vocal: no additional requirements
- Religious Education in Catholic Schools: minimum of one undergraduate course in Catholicism required
- Science – General: three different types of sciences required; minimum of four undergraduate courses must be from two of Biology, Chemistry or Physics; maximum of two undergraduate courses may be from STEM Skills, Earth/Space Science, Neuroscience, Zoology, Health Science or Computer Science
- Visual Arts: courses must be within the fine arts field

Stream Options
Primary/Junior Division
The Primary/Junior (P/J) division prepares teacher candidates to teach from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Applicants do not need to present a specific teaching subject upon admission.The curriculum focuses on foundational learning, with courses such as Engaging Literacy in the Primary Grades (EDU-421) and Digital Technology for Teachers (EDU-331). P/J students develop a deep understanding of emergent and early literacy, child-led and centre-based learning, and classroom practices for younger learners, enabling them to design and implement effective programs meeting provincial requirements.
Junior/Intermediate Division
The Junior/Intermediate (J/I) division prepares teacher candidates to teach Grades 4 to 10. J/I applicants must have a minimum of six courses (18 credits) in a teaching subject.The division includes courses like Teaching the Arts (EDU-333) and Engaging Literacy in the Junior Grades (EDU-423). Students in this division benefit from specialization in a subject area, preparing them for teaching specific disciplines at the junior and intermediate levels and developing skills relevant to older elementary and early high school students.

Costs and Financial Aid
Tuition
For new 2025-26 Bachelor of Education students completing their degree in the 2026-27 academic year, the program tuition will be $36,702.60. This tuition does not include any other applicable fees which will be specified in the 2026-27 academic calendar.

Candidates taking a leave of absence during the course of the 2-year program ending in 2026-27 will be charged as per the then-current program tuition upon their return.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education program at Redeemer may be eligible, if qualified, for government assistance under the Canadian Government Student Aid.
