Program Intro

How does a Christian faithfully engage the study of living organisms?

From molecules to human bodies to ecosystems: investigate the complexity, diversity and intricacy of living organisms. Take your curiosity and awe of the natural world to the next level by digging deeper into the wonder of God’s creation to better understand the Creator. Redeemer's Biology program equips students to be informed and experienced contributors to the field, with a strong foundation on stewarding in caring for and cultivating creation.

Biology is a Bachelor of Science degree. It is offered as an honours major, a major and as a minor.

Quick Links

Right from the start, small class sizes allow for meaningful class discussion, led by professors who are actively researching in the field and excited to include students in their work.

First-year courses provide the scientific background of biology with courses focusing on ecology, cell biology, and organisms. Foundational skills and knowledge in multiple science disciplines give you an interdisciplinary understanding of the topics that you'll dig into later on in your studies. Many classes, already in your first year, include a lab component where you'll participate in real-world experiments and use professional-grade equipment.

Biology The Core

The Core Curriculum is a set of 10 courses that every student takes. The courses are woven through every major and get you to think deeply and broadly about what you’re studying. Think about it this way…

  • Researchers can communicate their findings more clearly when they know how to write persuasively.
  • Scientists who are grounded in a biblical worldview, are able to discern the ethical implications of their work and research.
  • Biologists have a deeper sense of compassion when they ground themselves in a biblical understanding of caring for creation.

In the Classroom

In your classes, you will focus on developing critical thinking, analytical, and scientific writing skills in courses like Medicinal Botany, Cell and Molecular Biology, and Neurobiology. Small classes taught by dedicated professors who are experts in their field mean you will conduct and critically assess research as you review the methods, concepts and findings of contemporary biological researchers and experiments.

Beyond Campus

The Creation Care Studies Program offers you the chance to study for a term in either Belize or New Zealand to study God’s creation and human impact on the environment.
