How do Christians steward their wealth in biblical ways?

banner image background banner image background

What does it look like to honour God with wealth? Over the next generation, the Great Wealth Transfer will see an estimated $400 trillion in wealth transferred from Baby Boomers to Canadian inheritors. As this historic sum changes hands, more Christians will be challenged to consider how to steward their wealth biblically. Redeemer's Business - Finance program prepares students for careers in corporate finance, investment analysis and financial planning. This BBA program in finance combines specialized coursework, such as Wealth Management and Legacy Planning, with a strong foundation in ethical decision-making and biblical stewardship, and hands-on experience through student-managed investment funds and technical training using financial databases.

The curriculum is aligned to support pathways toward professional designations, including Qualified Associate Financial Planner (QAFP®), Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA).

Business - Finance is a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. It is offered as a major.

Right from the start, the Redeemer School of Business equips you with strong analytical, communication and decision-making skills, as well as a biblically-based ethical framework.

Your first- and second-year courses introduce you to different areas of business as well as some of the introductory skills needed to read and interpret financial statements. You have the flexibility to design a program tailored to your specific interest in accounting while also getting a broad and balanced understanding of all business disciplines with practical, real-world experiences you will encounter later on in the program.

Finance The Core

The Core Curriculum is a set of 10 courses that every student takes. The courses are woven through every major and get you to think deeply and broadly about what you’re studying. Think about it this way…

  • Entrepreneurs who understand historical trends and are effective collaborators are more successful in their business ventures.
  • Managers are more capable leaders when they understand their responsibilities to customers, employees and their communities.
  • Accountants interpret data more effectively when they understand the people and processes behind it.
  • Marketers analyze target markets more strategically when they understand social and demographic trends.

In the Classroom

In your classes, you will build a solid foundation across the disciplines while also honing soft skills in courses like Insurance and Risk Management; Legacy Planning: Retirement, Estate and the Law; and Financial Markets and Institutions. Small classes taught by dedicated professors who are experts in their field mean you will conduct and critically assess research as you review the methods, concepts and findings of contemporary business practices. Your classes will also help you build your professional skills, making decisions for a student-managed investment fund and collaborating with financial professionals to learn more about your future industry.

Beyond the Classroom

Redeemer's School of Business professors are advancing the case method, an experiential learning approach for business students where students take on the role of professionals in a variety of industries, organizations and scenarios. This case method provides a way for students to practice and gain confidence in their management skills.
