Applications have opened for Redeemer University’s new master of education (M.Ed.) program, offering a distinctly Christian approach to advanced studies in education. The first graduate degree program for Redeemer, the M.Ed. will provide a unique opportunity for Christian educators to explore current educational theories and practices through a biblical worldview.

Designed to equip educators with enhanced pedagogical skills and a deepened understanding of the significance of personhood and community in education, the program is set to welcome its first cohort in summer 2026. Students will engage with topics such as curriculum development, educational leadership and research methods, all while integrating Christian principles and values into their professional growth.

“We are excited to introduce this distinctly Christian master of education program,” says vice president, academic Dr. Peter Neumann. “It marks a pivotal time in Redeemer’s history as we embark on graduate-level programming that expands and deepens Redeemer’s mission by preparing more Christian learners and leaders to follow Christ in their careers and callings.”

It addresses a vital need for Christian educators who are seeking to expand their knowledge and extend their capacity to serve.

The two-year program is structured to accommodate working professionals. All courses are online and part-time only for the first cohort. An in-person summer intensive week in residence will kick off the program for each cohort, establishing a community of learning where they can collaborate, share insights and grow together in their faith and educational practice.

“Redeemer’s master of education will be the only one of its kind in Canada,” says Dr. Phil Teeuwsen, dean of education. “It addresses a vital need for Christian educators who are seeking to expand their knowledge and extend their capacity to serve. Our goal is to empower teachers and leaders to navigate educational complexities, curiosities and issues through a Christian worldview in order to joyfully serve God and their learning communities”.

Redeemer’s M.Ed. program includes five foundation courses and the option to pursue either the research track through a major research project or a course-work track with three electives that align with their positioning as either educators or educational leaders. Both coursework options conclude with a culminating capstone project. Each student in the first cohort will be offered an inaugural $2,000 scholarship in celebration of the launch of the M.Ed. as Redeemer’s first graduate degree program.
