The latest survey results from the Canadian University Survey Consortium (CUSC) show 97 per cent or more of respondents agree that Redeemer faculty are best in class. The survey, which collected responses from graduating Redeemer students, says alumni feel their professors were knowledgeable in their fields, well organized and good communicators. Graduates also said their professors treated them the same regardless of their race or gender.
“What I love most about the professors here is that they care about each of their students and they want to do their best to help each of them succeed,” says Leah Don, a second-year kinesiology major.
Joelle Mitton, a second-year mathematics major agrees. “I love that Redeemer professors really care about their students and are very enthusiastic and show a passion for what they teach.”
“They care deeply about our own personal growth and our faith and I’ve never experienced anything like this in a school setting before.”
Redeemer students also appreciate that faculty members encourage them in their faith journey. “They care deeply about our own personal growth and our faith and I’ve never experienced anything like this in a school setting before,” says Jax Ackland, a first-year theology major.
CUSC runs student experience surveys for post-secondary institutions across the country on a three-year cycle, rotating between first-year students, middle year students and graduating students. This year’s survey of graduating students saw Redeemer grads rank their experience high in a number of key areas. In addition to giving top marks to faculty generally, they also said they had high quality interactions and relationships with their professors. 89 per cent of respondents said professors provided useful and prompt feedback and took a personal interest in their academic progress, as compared with 63 per cent of respondents from other universities. 97 per cent of respondents agree or strongly agree that they are satisfied with the overall quality of teaching at Redeemer, compared with 84 per cent of respondents from other universities.
Redeemer is also known for its care and concern for individuals. 84 per cent of survey respondents agree or strongly agree that concern was shown to them as an individual, compared with 57 per cent of respondents from other universities.
Mahala Wantang, a third-year social work student says, “Redeemer does a good job caring for me as an individual [by really considering] my spiritual well-being–all students’ spiritual well-being–and considering that really plays into how you do physically, emotionally and mentally. I’d say that the fact that they really consider that and integrate it into the school environment is a way that they truly care about every single student that comes here.”
