This summer, Redeemer University is upgrading recreation spaces on campus. These enhancements will improve the student experience and help meet recreation needs in the Hamilton area.

Redeemer has just opened six new pickleball courts, with rentals officially available to the public. Located on the north side of campus, these courts offer well-maintained and secure spaces for both advanced and novice pickleball players.

“Redeemer recognizes a significant increase in pickleball demand in the Hamilton area,” says Aaron Williams, vice president, administration and finance. “It is a priority for Redeemer to build recreation facilities that benefit both students and the local community.”

Community members looking to rent a pickleball court can visit Redeemer’s rental website for an easy online booking experience. The basic rental rate is $35 per hour. Group rates and bookings can also be coordinated by calling 289-877-8325.

“A significant portion of recreation facility use at Redeemer is from external guests,” says Williams. “It’s a win-win when the university can contribute to the well-being of surrounding residents in a manner that is financially sustainable.”

This July and August, the university is also replacing the floor of its gymnasium, a 10,000 square foot hardwood surface. The gym is used for a variety of internal and external activities, including athletic games, kinesiology and physical education classes, conferences and events, children’s sports tournaments and summer camps.

It is a priority for Redeemer to build recreation facilities that benefit both students and the local community.

Additionally, this October and November, Redeemer will replace the turf on its outdoor David Mantel Field, an approximately 85,000 square foot rubber-based surface. This new turf will improve playability, aesthetics and safety. A new paved path from the indoor dome field to the outdoor field, replacing a gravel path, will also be constructed in the coming months. This addition will improve walkability, accessibility and cleanliness. Both fields meet FIFA standards, measure almost two full acres of playing surface and can be divided into three junior fields.

Redeemer is investigating the feasibility of a number of additional outdoor facility projects, such as Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) compliant volleyball courts and a parking expansion.
