Hard work and study came to fruition for 159 students at Redeemer’s 2019 convocation ceremony on Saturday, May 25th. Graduates received Bachelors of Arts, Bachelors of Science and Bachelors of Education in the university’s 34th conferring of degrees.
Alumnus Graham Cubitt ’01, recipient of Redeemer’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2014 and Director of Projects & Development at Indwell, served as convocation speaker this year. His address, titled, “Forging the Future with a Kingdom Imagination,” explored how, in a world of seemingly intractable problems, we can live towards the promised reality of the Kingdom of God through the Spirit’s imaginative stirrings.
Dylan Knibbe, the class speaker for the Class of 2019, was the recipient of the 2019 Student Life Award earlier this year and served in leadership roles extensively during his time at Redeemer in areas such as Rooted Worship (formerly Church in the Box), Common Ground and Student Life. Knibbe shared graduate reflections on behalf of the class and graduated with a BA Honours double major in Psychology: Clinical Stream and Religion & Theology.
Johanna Wolfert was awarded special recognition for her academic excellence and high standing at the university, graduating with distinction with a BA Honours in International Studies: International Relations Stream. Wolfert received both the Faculty Award — presented to the student who best exemplifies academic excellence, Christian leadership and active participation in the life of Redeemer — and the Governor General’s Silver Medal for the highest academic standing at the university.
