New faculty appointment to growing Health Sciences program

Sarah Reid-Yu has accepted a new, tenure-track appointment in Health Sciences, effective December 1, 2014. Health Sciences is a new program at Redeemer that has generated a great deal of interest among students. Reid-Yu holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, a Master of Science in Applied Molecular Biology and is currently finishing her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences at McMaster University. An expert in innate and adaptive immunity, Reid-Yu is studying the immune response to digestive diseases in her research. While working on her doctorate, she is also serving as adjunct faculty at Sheridan College. “I look forward to working with Redeemer faculty and students in shaping the Health Sciences program. This is a program that will help equip and empower the Christian scientific leaders of tomorrow. My goal is that students may confidently engage in dialogue with the scientific community through a Christian worldview,” said Reid-Yu about her new position. The new faculty appointment follows Dr. Heather Strong leaving her role as Assistant Professor of Health Sciences for family reasons. Dr. Strong now serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Health Sciences. “We look forward to welcoming Sarah to Redeemer,” says Dr. Doug Needham, Provost and Vice President, Academic. “We are thankful that God has called this gifted scholar to our university to assist us as we move ahead on initiatives within the Health Sciences program.”
