Alumni Association President Leanna Nightingale reflects on a fruitful fall term and shares some exciting events to come for 2021.

Happy new year, alumni community! I hope you have had a wonderful time of rest and reflection during this past holiday season. My prayer for you in 2021 is that you may know and experience our Saviour more intimately this year.

The fall for alumni was quite packed as we had our Alumni Week which featured the Distinguished Alumni Award, various social media contests and giveaways and the 10/20/30 Reunion. However, this year the busyness of it all looked a little different as all events were done virtually. We started with honouring Angela Reitsma Bick ‘01 as our 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award winner. Although we would have loved to do this in person, one benefit to doing the reception virtually was that we were able to celebrate with more than 80 people from all over North America! It was a blessing to honour Angela with this well-deserved award. Alumni Week ended with a virtual 10/20/30 Reunion. It was great to be a part of this event and hear stories from the classes of ‘10, ‘00, and ‘90 from their time at Redeemer. We really are blessed with such a great community! Thank you to everyone who participated. We hope that this coming year we can have this gathering in person.

I also want to take a moment thank all of the alumni who gave financially to Redeemer to help cover the COVID-related expenses the institution had to purchase to keep operating safely and efficiently during the pandemic. Your generosity to bless Redeemer in this way is very much appreciated!

We do have some exciting upcoming events coming up in 2021 that we would love your involvement in. The Alumni Office and The Centre for Experiential Learning have teamed up to host three Class to Career: Alumni + Student Mentoring Night events, each one focusing on careers in three broad categories: Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities. These events will be approximately one hour long using Zoom and are a chance for experienced alumni in various fields of work to share their knowledge and journeys with students and recent grads who are interested in learning about what you do. If you would like to apply to be a mentor and share your career knowledge with current students and recent alumni, you can complete the form here. We all remember being a student or recent grad and figuring out our path, so I encourage you to sign up for this to give back to Redeemer students. For recent grads looking to register for these events, stay tuned! Registration will open closer to these dates.

As always, we love to hear from you! Let us know what you are up to and stay connected by filling out the alumni update form.

Warmly,
Leanna Nightingale ‘18
