Dr. Doug Needham, Provost and Vice President, Academic, this morning announced that Mr. Robert Joustra has been appointed to fill a ten-month limited-term faculty position in the International Studies Department, effective July 1, 2013. Mr. Joustra graduated from Redeemer University College in 2005, when he was the recipient of the Faculty Award. He earned his M.A. in globalization studies from McMaster University in 2007, and he plans to defend his Ph.D. dissertation in international relations and religious freedom in July at the University of Bath. Currently, Mr. Joustra works at Cardus, a Christian think tank in Hamilton, where he serves as the editor of Cardus Policy in Public and is a senior editor of Comment. Mr. Joustra was also a part-time instructor this term in International Studies, an inter-disciplinary program launched by Redeemer in the fall of 2012. He has also been active politically, especially at the federal level, where he has served as one of Canada’s leading public voices on religious freedom in foreign affairs and media commentary. His articles and reviews have appeared in The Globe and Mail, The National Post, the Review of Faith and International Affairs, Books & Culture, and more. “Institutions like Redeemer and Cardus are cornerstones, not only for their students and community, but for the flourishing of a broader culture,” says Joustra. “I’m proud to be part of its continuing efforts of renewal, in education generally, and now with a new global focus, that the Lamb of God is king over all.” Redeemer is pleased to welcome Mr. Joustra to our community, and looks forward to his contributions in this new and exciting field.
