A crowd of nearly 500 gathered to enjoy a collection of music centred around the birth of Jesus at Redeemer’s annual Christmas concert on December 2, 2016.
The concert, entitled “O Come Let Us Adore Him!”, featured performances from Redeemer’s concert choir, faculty and music students and was conducted by Redeemer’s Dr. Christiaan Teeuwsen.
Classical guitarist Emma Rush’s compelling rendition of José Luis Merlin’s Evocatión y Joropo was a highlight. Rush has toured nationally and internationally, and teaches classical guitar at Redeemer. Pianist Laura Pin performed Handel’s classic Joy to the World alongside two of Redeemer voice instructors: contralto Jennifer Enns Modolo and soprano Janet Obermeyer. The concert reached its climax with the Corelli Christmas Concerto and Vivaldi’s Gloria from the concert choir, accompanied by an orchestra.
The Christmas concert is a regular event put on by the Redeemer music program. The belief that music is a gift from God, made possible through God’s creation and sustaining care, is inherent in every performance at Redeemer. More information can be found at www.redeemer.ca/music.
